    Best question of the weekend
"What does it say about the world when Mick Jagger is knighted before Jane Goodall is damed?" This was posed to me by the little old asian lady sitting next to me after Dame Goodall was introduced, one upping my verbal wondering about how many of the parents with small children were there expecting a monkey show. I can't say I can come up with a good answer to my neighbor's, but I am certainly glad I got the opportunity to hear Dame Goodall speak. I just hope we didn't disturb the bats.

    Outcast Genius

    82 % Nerd, 60% Geek, 60% Dork

    For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.

A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.

A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.

You scored better than half in all three, earning you the title of: Outcast Genius.

Outcast geniuses usually are bright enough to understand what society
wants of them, and they just don't care! They are highly intelligent
and passionate about the things they know are *truly* important in the
world. Typically, this does not include sports, cars or make-up, but it
can on occassion (and if it does then they know more than all of their
    friends combined in that subject).

Outcast geniuses can be very lonely, due to their being
outcast from most normal groups and too smart for the room among many
other types of dorks and geeks, but they can also be the types to
eventually rule the world, ala Bill Gates, the prototypical Outcast
    Genius.

    Congratulations!

I should probably be writing here about the reunion, the fun we had, and the misadventures we had towards the end of the trip. (Thanks again to my lovely wife [info]thenay for all her help and understanding). But at the moment all I can really think about is a question. When are the adults going to be in charge again?

This morning I have screwed up very badly. I have hurt the person that means the most to me. I wish I could be more helpful, and make things go away, or at least be more patient and understanding. My stubborn need to solve problems has hurt her and pushed her away. She feels like no one cares about her, and now I have made her pull away from the one person she should always be able to talk to and find support from. I don't know what to do, and to be honest, I don't really have anyone to talk to myself without her. I don't know what to do anymore. I want her to feel good about herself, about us, and about life. I want to see her happy, like I know she can be.

It looks like I will be changing my living arrangments soon. My roommate [info]dustysutton moved out over the weekend. We knew it was coming, but we did not expect it to happen so quickly. Nothing bad, family stuff with him, a new chapter to his already interesting life. The trouble is that now I am a roommate short. $1500 a month for a three bedroom house with a garage may not seem like a lot to most of you city types, but it is quite a lot to me. Dad is still here half the time, and he pays me a few hundred a month, but it still leaves me with a very large rent bill every month. I am not very keen on playing the roommate lottery, but I am not sure I can find an apartment that won't cost me a lot more than I am used to. I need a few days to figure this out.....

    Because I value my brains!
It has been a while since I have updated, mainly because I am a rather private person, but [info]zombie_baby_ has threatened to eat my brains if I do not update, so here goes. Life has been progressing, as it is wont to do. Plans for the future are starting to form, which is a little unusual for me. I tend to look very broadly at things rather than deeply, but I now have a goal to work towards. Work has been busy since I am now scheduling and allocating almost all of the company's resources. It is an interesting gig with potential to be very educational. In other things big decisions are coming together and influencing each other as they seem to do. I expect to see big things happening in the next year. With more threats to the integrity of my skull I might even write about them here with some regularity. Hope springs eternal....

    Oh the irony
So here's the deal. I own two cars. I have a 2003 Honda Element and a 1978 Triumph Spitfire. On the Fourth of July the air conditioning went out on the Honda. Figures, seeing as how I rolled past 50,000 miles on the first. Talk about your planned failures. I have been doing okay with just the Triumph, which I usually just use for fun jaunts around town, and occasionally head over to see [info]thenay since she loves it as much as I do. It has seen me through several trips to her place, as well as back and forth to work, which is a pretty good trip. Anyway, it seems that I have annoyed the fickle diety of British autos by making one too many ironic comments of "My Honda is in the shop, so I have to drive the Triumph. Go figure." I got out to her place just fine tonight, and we took her car out to dinner for my celebration of my new lateral-transfer, new position thingy. Taking her car to dinner turned out to be an excellent idea, as I was just about home when the Spitfire died. It would seem that the engine seized one exit short of where I get off to get home. Fortunately I was able to call Dad since he is in town this week. He came and looked at it, and we used his little truck to tow it the few miles back home. That was something of an adventure in and of itself, but it worked. So now I have one car that runs great, save for the a/c, but is in the shop, and a fun convertible that doesn't run. Ah well, at least it's not my turn to drive the car pool tomorrow.

    I feel safer already!
So [info]thenay and I were in Baskin Robbins on Melrose today for a shake while shopping. After she ordered but while I was waiting we had an off-duty security guard push in front of us and order. This woman was a poster child for fetal alcohol syndrome. The look, the talk, the walk, it made me feel so incredibly secure! Forget large, muscular, bald shaven men with firearms, we need to replace our police forces with the mildly retarded! Of course, now I feel like I am going to hell for making this post.....Overall it was a pretty good weekend. In other events, we got the fabric for my halloween costume. It is a double top secret costume, but rest assured, between my flash of inspiration/plagarism, and [info]thenay's seamstress skills it will be the best costume ever! Now all we need is a party or two to go to......

I need to put together a band
I am looking to assemble a band in Southern California. Los Angeles or Inland Empire preferred. Jazz, Soul, Torch, and Lounge players prefered. I have a lead singer but need the rest. Organization and managment is covered. What I need is musicians to fill out at least a three piece, but the more the merrier. Interested parties should contact me at petebgardner@aol.com. Feel free to distribute this anywhere you think someone interested might read it. In fact, please distribute it. Lets add a little more happiness to the world.

    An unexpected discovery
I finally got around to trying on my outfit for the Murder Mystery Party tomorrow night.....I probably should have done so sooner, in case anything didn't fit. Fortunately it all fit quite well. And I learned something new. I look good in a suit. I repeat, I look GOOOOOOD in a suit. Go figure. It improved my posture and everything. Maybe I should look into another line of work. This look is much more flattering than my shop jeans and tee shirt look.....

    What an idea
So as anyone who actually reads this knows by now, [info]thenay is headed up to San Francisco for a week. She told me that when she used to fly back and forth to and from Philly her mother used to make her care packages for the plane. The catch was that she couldn't open them until she was in the air. This is a brilliant idea! So know I've got the ingredients and need to box them up. Same rules apply, no peeking until she's on the road. The one exception I will make is to prevent confusion. The magnet is for [info]shadowcircus. It's from the savviest street vendor I've ever met. Tiny little girl from Sao Jose dos Campos, Brasil. So it's a genuine handmade trinket from Brasil. I hope it joins a great many other magnets on his fridge.

    A wonderful weekend
This was the best weekend I had in a very long time. I'd forgotten how it felt to spend time with someone you care so much about. Since I first headed overseas almost four years ago I have always felt transient, like I was just passing through someone else's space. This weekend I felt like I was home. I don't think she understands how much she is helping me. Now if only I can figure out how to help her. If I could, I would hold her until the pain went away. For now, I just hope she can trust me with her heart.....
